“They rested in the camp until they were healed.” Joshua 5:8
Life is full of battles. There are some that we choose or bring upon ourselves, while others are thrust upon us unexpectedly. None-the-less, all must be fought. The book of Joshua contains a great many battles that HAD to be fought in order for the Children of Israel to claim the land that had been promised to them. War is never EASY, however, with God on your side all things are possible for those who believe. Since the Word of God has a marvelous way of bringing rest to a battle-weary soul in need of healing, let’s take a walk through the pages of scripture to get some inspiration for our own battlefields, shall we?
Joshua 8:1 & 10:8 speak words of encouragement: “Do not be afraid or discouraged.” “Do not be afraid of them,” the LORD said to Joshua, “for I have given you victory over them. Not a single one of them will be able to stand up to you.”
A mere three verses later, the author describes how God gave Joshua the victory over that particular enemy. “The LORD destroyed them with a terrible hailstorm from heaven that continued until they reached Azekah. The hail killed more of the enemy than the Israelites killed with the sword.” (Joshua 10:11) “Surely the LORD fought for Israel that day!” (Joshua 10:14)
The LORD our God is eternal. The God that promised them victory on that day is the same God that promises you victory over your enemies on this day. However, it is important to remember that the enemy looks a bit different today than it did back then. For we battle, not against flesh and blood, but against the powers and authorities of this world. It isn’t people that we fight; it’s the demonic forces that hold this world in chains. And yet, just as Joshua 10:19 says, “The LORD your God has given you victory over them.”
If we look at John’s account of the Last Supper in chapter 14 verse 30, we find Jesus saying, “I don’t have much more time to talk to you because the ruler of this world approaches. He has no power over Me.” Satan is the ruler of this world and yet with all the power he possesses, he still has NO power over Jesus! He didn’t then and he doesn’t now!
In John 16:33 Jesus reminds us of the one most critical Truths in the entire Bible, HE has overcome the world! Yes, this world is full of trouble and tribulation and fear and doubt and frustration and struggle. BUT, we can take heart and have peace and healing when we rest in the overwhelming Truth that Jesus, our Savior, has overcome all those things. And it is through Him that we too can overcome them as well!
Fear, Doubt, Uncertainty, Pride, none of them stand a chance against the LORD our God! And He WILL help us defeat them! You know how I know? In the second to last verse in the book of Jude, he writes: “Now all glory to God, who is able to keep you from falling away and will bring you with great joy into His glorious presence without a single fault.” God is able to keep you from falling away from Him. Isn’t that a glorious Truth for us today!?! We can rest assured in the palm of His firm hand that no one can snatch us away from His grip of True Love. Not even Fear, Doubt, Uncertainty, Pride or Satan.
Hallelujah!
